A little info on the more unusual ingredients
Lucuma is a Peruvian fruit with a biscuity flavour and beautiful yellow colour. This adds sweetness to the chocolate.
Mesquite is a legume, similar to carob. It is high in protein and adds a beautiful sweet caramel flavour.
Spirulina is an algae. It is very high in protein. It contains nearly all the vitamins and minerals that our bodies require, in all the right ratios - an incredible food!
Maca and Suma are adaptogens. These foods are like medicine, they help to restore balance in the body.
Maca is renowned for balancing hormones and also as an aphrodisiac (Cacao is an aphrodisiac too, so watch out!) It is a root vegetable a bit like a turnip, growing at high altitudes in Peru.
Suma is also known as Brazilian Ginseng and has traditionally been used for strength and endurance. It is the root of a vine that grows in the Amazon rainforest.
Camu Camu is a berry with the highest known levels of Vitamin C. It grows on a shrub in flooded, swampy parts of the Amazon rainforest. It has a very calming effect and has been used to help alleviate depression.
He Shou Wu is an important Chinese Herb. It is the tuberous root of a climbing plant. It lifts the mood, increases physical energy, calms anxiety and helps with sleep. The Chinese take it for it’s anti-ageing properties.
My ingredients are almost all organic and fairly traded, because I believe that care of ourselves and care of our planet go hand in hand.
